Takoradi, 18 September 2008.

Frits Bolkestein – former Dutch Minister of  Foreign Trade and of Defence, former member of the European Commission- recently visited the Takoradi Educational Resource Centre as part of a personal West African tour to Sierra Leone and Ghana.

Mr. Bolkestein noted that Ghana is going through an impressive development. This is in stark contrast to Sierra Leone, which has suffered greatly due to the civil war.

Ghana has shown an annual economic growth of approximately 6% in 2007 and is clearly committed to ICT for Accelerated Development. Arriving at the ToBe Centre in Takoradi, Mr. Bolkestein had the opportunity to experience the children’s eagerness and enthusiasm. He asked them about their experiences and aspirations and looked over their shoulders as they worked. He also spoke to the staff at the Centre about the daily operations, enrolments and future developments.

He commented that the concept of the ToBe Centre(s) can contribute to Ghana’s success. Empowering children in their community creates a next generation to sustain the country’s economic growth.

To Be Worldwide is naturally very honoured that Mr. Bolkestein took time from his busy schedule to visit our Centre in Takoradi.
