Takoradi, 3 November 2008 It was a pleasure to welcome the board of the Turing Foundation to our Takoradi Educational Resource Centre on November 3rd. The Turing Foundation, established in 2006 by Pieter Geelen, co-founder of TomTom NV, awarded To Be Worldwide a grant to build its second centre in Cape Coast, Ghana. Construction on the Cape Coast started in November 2008. | | The Board visited the Takoradi centre to get a feel for how future ToBe centres will operate and what they will achieve in their communities. The board was enthusiastic about their visit. They saw it as a project that proves that ICT education can be effective to help kids reach their education goals. | They also felt that the Takoradi centre was well-run, solidly rooted in the community and highly scalable. As such, the Board is enthusiastically looking forward to seeing the Takoradi success model in operation at Cape Coast. The Centre is expected to open in late summer 2009. More information and photographs of the building process in Cape Coast will be posted soon. |
